I ordered the Thule crossbars for my 2022 Outback Wilderness from the Subaru dealership where I bought my car. They had them in stock and I picked them up the same day.
At first I thought to install them at the points already on the rails. I researched where others installed them and no one used the copper colored points on the rails to mount the crossbars so I went with the exposed sites.
Thule has a good video on YouTube that clearly demonstrates the installation. Getting the crossbars equally positioned was the most involved part of the installation. fixing them was easy. Inserting the locks were frustrating. The locks wouldn’t slip right in and I had to work it to insert them.
They look good on the car. There is a whispering noise when driving when the sunroof is open, but not too bad. Once the cargo rack is on I think the noise level will go up.
The crossbars are rugged and extend about 2 and a half inches out from the rails but not enough to bother when you get in the car or pass by.
