There’s been drama around getting these tow hooks. Which ones can fit my vehicle? Which can be used for recovery? Which ones have been tested?
I drive a Outback Wilderness. After researching between manufacturers recommendation and documentation from others. I decided on using my tow points ( I have two in front and two rear) as ‘soft’ recovery points in a pinch. The Subies don’t have recovery points but they have tow points. The difference is that the manufacture doesn’t rate these points for heavy weights. When recovery the force of the vehicle that is towing or snatching you out should be taken into account.
The tow points on my Outback Wilderness are rated for the weight of the vehicle. Finding tow hooks that match that weight or exceed it was a chore. I found a company that make Rally Rated hooks for Subaru, it’s Cusco. I ordered two of them and they arrived today!
I won’t be leaving them in place because they can interfere with air bag deployment but I will be trying them out. Here they are my tow hooks! Very excited to have them in my recovery box. More on that later.
